Hertfordshire County Council is asking residents to share their views on potential changes to Recycling Centres across the county.
The consultation, which runs from 3 October to 28 November 2025, invites residents to have their say on three possible changes that could ensure the service remains financially sustainable and that those working in the service are safe from abuse.
The three options for consideration are restricting those who should not have access, businesses and traders; applying a charge for excess DIY waste; and no longer accepting any unsorted residual waste.
The council had previously proposed reducing opening days at some Recycling Centres and introducing a booking system. However, the new administration scrapped those proposals and asked for new alternative options to be considered, and residents’ views will play an important role in shaping future decisions.
Cllr Paul Zukowskyj, Executive Member for Environment, Transport and Growth at Hertfordshire County Council said:
“We know how important Recycling Centres are to Hertfordshire residents, and that’s why we want to hear from as many people as possible. This consultation is about exploring three new options to make the service financially sustainable and as effective as possible for our residents. We want to listen to those of you who use recycling centres regularly to help us make the right decision for the future.”
All responses will be carefully considered before a decision is made by Cabinet in February 2026.
